About

Hello everyone. My name is Brian Stomel and I am a junior Statistics and Economics double major. I am also working towards a minor in business analytics through the Smith School. I have hopes of working as a data scientist after graduation.  I am taking this course in order to increase my ability to write in a professional manner in a business environment. One interesting fact about me is that I was born on Friday the 13th. I can not say for sure whether I have been plagued greatly with bad luck, however I am still young. I can for sure say that I am a dog person. This is due to an unfortunate allergy that I have struggled with my entire life to the entire feline species. Over this past winter break I visited my older brother in San Diego, California for a week. He moved from DC to California in March and this was the first time I had been able to visit him.

If I had to recommend a book to a friend it would be What If? by Randall Munroe. This was a very interesting read as the author answered audience-submitted hypothetical questions with real scientific answers. For example, Munroe explored the physics of what would happen if someone threw a baseball at the speed of light. A movie recommendation would be Inside Out. This film is a very enjoyable Pixar movie for the whole family! My favorite social media platform is Snapchat because it is often a great source of humor. Snapchat is a picture/video sharing application.  The worst ice-breaker I have even been apart of was the first day of class during the Spring 2015 semester. The professor required everyone to complete a BINGO board, where you could fill in a space after you met someone who satisfied the requirement of that space. For example, one space may say “Has left the country in the past month”. The person I most admire is my father. I look up to him as an extremely hard working man who does everything for his family.
